After lunch, you will be picked up again by a pearl farmer to uncover the work behind producing the finest quality Australian Akoya pearls. Cruise past our original pearling shed, and visit a pearl oyster lease all on your return journey to Killcare.

As you are guided through the farm leases, you will be immersed in the incredible marine wilderness of the local bay while learning about the intricate details of the locally grown Australian Akoya pearl.

Known as ‘Guardians of the ocean’, our oysters are filter feeders which means they play a vital role in maintaining (and even restoring) degraded marine environments. They filter algae from the plankton and in the process clean the water – this helps sunlight penetrate which in turn promotes the health of seagrass and other underwater environments.

Carefully cultured by our pearl farmers over many years, our world class Akoya pearls are over 1000 times rarer than diamonds. Not only are our pearls rare, pure and completely stunning to look at, they also happen to be one of the few precious gems on the planet that contain regenerative and restorative qualities for our environment.

Pearling provides multiple services to surrounding ecosystems and communities. This includes employment, education and empowerment for people and extends to the protection of the marine environment – specifically the mangroves, seagrass and salt-marsh, known as the most efficient carbon sequestration substrates (‘blue carbon sinks’) on the planet.
