Yes. We prefer you book prior as some tours may be full on the day you choose to visit. You do not need to book if you wish to browse our jewellery displays. You can book tours here.
We request you arrive 10 minutes before your tour.
We allow dogs in the main Shellar Door area where you can browse our jewellery but they are not allowed on the boat or in the Pearl Grading room. Both areas form part of the tours we offer. If you are booked on a private tour, you may bring your dog if safe to do so. Please call us prior to confirm.
We have car parking at the door at 12 Kowan st Mooney Mooney. If the carpark is full when you arrive, extra parking is available a short walk away at the Mooney Mooney Workers Club in the overflow carpark.
Yes, we do. We sell Sydney Rock Oysters, Pacific Rock Oysters (when available), and now Australian Akoya Oysters (when available). All are grown and freshly shucked at our very own pearl farm. Call ahead to ensure availability or if you would like unshucked oysters. We do not sell ice so please bring a cooler bag or esky, if travelling.
When there is a substantial rain event, flooding occurs, and the river will close to oyster harvesting if the water quality is deemed unsafe for human consumption. When the river is closed oyster farmers cannot harvest oysters.
No, sorry we don’t. When available, we have fresh oysters that you can takeaway or eat at our picnic table overlooking the river. We also have a water fountain.
Yes. There are several options.

Hawkesbury River Oyster Shed – walking distance from pearl farm. Bookings required for dine-in. Takeaway options available. Open Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm. Ph: 0423 285 867
Estuary Kiosk and Restaurant – Five-minute drive form the pearl farm. The Kiosk takeaway window is open Wednesday to Sunday from 8am to 3pm.
Saddles Mt White – Fifteen-minute drive from the pearl farm. Open seven days a week 8am to 5pm. Bookings required. Ph: (02) 4370 1152
Brooklyn town centre – Fifteen-minute drive from the pearl farm. Brooklyn has a range of options including a hotel and cafes.
You can wear whatever you wish but we recommend flat shoes and a warm coat for winter, windbreaker in summer. Sun hat in summer.
Our larger vessel will take a maximum of 30 and our smaller vessel will take 12.
Yes. Both of our boats have a canopy for shade and wet weather. However, we recommend bringing a hat and or poncho depending on weather. The sides are not covered and sun/water can come in from the angle.

It certainly is. Children of all ages love our tours, especially primary school age. Children under five are free.
No. You can visit anytime between 9.30am to 4.00pm Tuesday to Sunday. We are closed Mondays except in school holidays when we are open seven days.

If there is light rain, we will run the tour. If we deem it not viable due to heavy rain, wind or thunderstorms, we will contact you one or two days prior to reschedule the tour on another day, conduct a land-based tour or a refund depending on what you prefer.
Yes, you can. We have two large picnic tables overlooking the Hawkesbury River that you may use. Each table seats 10 people.
Yes, we do accommodate wedding proposals. Situated on the stunning lower Hawkesbury River, our Shellar Door offers a picturesque setting for your special moment! In fact, we’ve previously hidden rings in oysters for proposals. You can join a private tour, enjoy freshly shucked local oysters with a view of Spectacle Island, and make your proposal truly memorable. For a more tailored experience, please contact us in advance to discuss your plans.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
Let us know if yourself or one of your guests requires wheelchair access.
To assist you with planning for the tour here is some information regarding our current ‘Supported Mobility access’:
· The vessel we take guests on, to tour our farm leases has a gateway of 75cm width.
· The step up to board the vessel is 20cm high, we have a portable ramp that spans this distance.
· There is also a step of 20cm onto the pontoon, we have a portable ramp that spans this distance.
· Broken Bay Pearl farm staff will assist guests to board safely, including boarding the boat.
· There is a wheelchair accessible restroom located at the Shellar Door, accessible via a concrete path.
· The Shellar Door has a level concrete floor for all interior spaces used for the tour.
· Car parking is available at the Shellar Door, a space will be reserved on the day for your group. This is a loose gravel surface, but your guest can alight onto the pavement entryway into the Shellar Door.
· Between the Shellar Door and the pathway to our pontoon where the vessel is moored there is a 13.5m distance to travel over loose gravel. We have a carpet mat that is 68cm wide, this spans the distance running over the top of the loose gravel.
Past guests with manual wheelchairs have found our access to the full tour, including on land as well as on water components, to be accessible with support given as required by our team.

If you feel the access will be too challenging for your guest, we can also offer the tour as a land-based experience rather than the boat component.
